What is SEC?
Secondary Engineering Control: the room in which the PEC is placed, such as a buffer room or ante room. Provides ISO 7 or ISO 8 background air quality to support the PEC.
The SEC is the classified room around the primary engineering control — typically an ISO 7 buffer room entered through an ISO 8 ante room. Its job is to keep the background air, surfaces, and personnel flow clean enough that the PEC can maintain ISO 5 at the critical site.
SECs carry their own requirements: air change rates, pressure differentials between adjacent spaces, temperature and humidity control, defined cleaning frequencies, and surface sampling locations.
