Keep a sensor outage distinct from a microbial excursion

A missing sensor reading and a sample above an action level require different investigations. Neither should disappear into a generic alert total.

  1. For an outage, identify the affected room and time interval, then record a manual observation with its reading time, entry time and source device.
  2. For a viable sample, preserve the collection location, incubation record, result and attachments.
  3. Link the affected record to the investigation and follow-up; retain the gap or original result when a later reading returns to range.

USP <797> treats environmental quality as part of sterile-compounding practice. Continuous temperature, humidity and pressure readings do not replace viable air and surface sampling or other required facility evaluations.

Environmental monitoring: common questions

Does continuous monitoring replace microbial sampling?

No. Sensors measure physical conditions; viable sampling evaluates microbial contamination. CompliRx supports both record types, with separate collection, result and follow-up evidence.

What happens when a sensor is offline?

The offline state remains visible. Staff can document backup readings and their source, then review the affected interval. A manual reading documents the observation made; it does not reconstruct an unmeasured period.
